I have a 35 mm slide film that is about 30 years old. I would really like to minimize the potential for damage. My 35mm slide scanner can hold straight strips of up to 5 frames, so I want to get them in this form. The scanner can also scan plastic or cardboard frames that are used for holding single frames of 35mm slide film. Any advice?

If your film is black and white, it is safe to thread it back onto a developing spool so it doesn’t get scratched and get in some photo-flo for about five minutes, then hang it to dry in a dust-free area with a weight at the bottom.
Once it’s dry, cut it and put the strips in negative sleeves. They should be ready to scan.
If it’s color, the same method should work just fine, just be sure to check on the photo-flo to make sure it won’t harm the colors.
